The Immersionists

The Immersionists’ is a focus group of people who have a deep connection with water and regularly immerse themselves in the sea. Through ethnographic interviews and photographic sessions within the water it became apparent that their relationship with the sea was special and sublime. The translation of these conclusions is conveyed through the artworks. ‘The Water Vials’ were subtly placed on a shelf as the visitors moved from one gallery to the next as an inquisitive introduction to ‘The Changing Face of Water’. Each vial was connected to one of the Immersionists. After meditating towards the vial the Drop Evaporation method was used to microscopically photograph each sample. This revealed that the interaction of each individual changed the ‘face’ of water. I am not a scientist, I am an artist, and I am not trying to claim anything scientific but at the same time I do feel as if we have a far deeper relationship with water than we probably realise. The Publication ‘Immersion’ is an artefact of the Immersionists, their relationship with the water and their distinctive ‘faces’ of water. This can be seen in the publications tab.
